Mosaic Foods Review 2024: All You Need to Know

Last Updated : September 20, 2024

Mosaic-Foods-Review

While many of us feel lazy to cook, we also don’t want to try just about any meal delivery service. And most of us are even more reluctant to choose prepared or frozen meals because healthy and whole ingredients are usually not a part of these kinds of premade meals. When it comes to food, you must have such high standards.

So, all things considered, Mosaic Foods is a meal subscription company that has become quite popular over the recent years for preparing and sending not only super healthy but also super tasty plant-based prepared dishes. It really lives up to high expectations. Let’s find out how!

What is Mosaic Foods, and how was it created?

Mosaic Foods History

Mosaic Foods frozen meatless meals are all the hype. This is a subscription-based premade meal delivery service perfect for vegans and vegetarians. You have to choose how many frozen meals you want per box – 6, 12, or 18. Each meal averages at about $10 per serving – an inexpensive option indeed.

There are multiple menu categories like veggie bowls, oat bowls, pizzas, smoothies, etc. – all of it in the form of healthy prepared, flash-frozen food that’s vegetarian and, most of the time, vegan too.

The founders of Mosaic Foods, Matt and Sam, started the company just recently in 2019 because they themselves were searching for a healthy as well as affordable alternative to takeout. This encompasses whole and unprocessed foods and meals readied with real, fresh vegetables – better for the health for sure but also better for the environment.

Nourishing meals that are not just salads, which generally leave you and your hunger and cravings unsatisfied, are a big part of the Mosaic Foods menu. They’re the most suitable for omnivores who’ll never get bored of the company’s supremely convenient, veggie-dominated, and desirable enough fully cooked meals.

What Does Mosaic Foods Offer In Their Weekly Menu?

Mosaic-Foods-Weekly-Menu

The menu of Mosaic Foods is divided into seven different categories:

  • Veggie Bowls
  • Oat Bowls
  • Family Meals
  • Pizzas
  • Soups
  • Smoothies
  • Mosaic +

Everything on the full menu is either vegan or vegetarian, so there are no meat-based meals on Mosaic Foods. You will find breakfasts, lunches, and dinners – all already prepped and cooked for you!

Each ingredient is high quality, and every combination is flavorful, be it light, snacky smoothies and soups, or something more well-rounded like the single-serve oat and veggie bowls (with satisfying portion sizes). Around 4–5 oat bowls and 20+ veggie bowls are on the menu.

Also on the Mosaic Foods menu, there is a wide range of cuisines that appeal to the taste buds. This includes Italian, Indian, Mexican, American, Thai, Japanese, North African, etc.

The diversity of ingredients is also very impressive – beans, lentils, tofu, tempeh, Brussels sprouts, chickpeas, butternut squash, sweet potato, asparagus, tahini, jackfruit, walnuts, and so much more. So, the chances of your meals containing processed or artificial ingredients are impossible.

Mosaic Foods “Family” meals are perfect replacements for fast food, junk food, takeout, etc. These are wholesome meals you get to prepare in your oven in no time. They’re no-prep, convenient options you can pair with sides and salads. Some of the most delectable dishes that even kids enjoy include Veggie Pot Pie, Buffalo Cauliflower Pasta Bake, Italian “Sausage” & Pumpkin Lasagna, and plenty more.

What’s most interesting about Family meals is that the serving sizes are huge, like an entire lasagna or veggie pot pie – exciting flavor variety and the possibility of leftovers for the next day or even an extra person!

Pizzas are also on the menu, which works for both kids and adults, for example, Mushroom Lover’s Pizza, Four Cheese Pizza, and “Sausage” & Pepper Pizza. Mosaic Foods pizzas have a protein-packed, wheat-free cauliflower crust. But they’re not dairy-free, so not vegan.

As for the Mosaic Plus Bowls, you have limited choices here, but this particular category consists of premium dishes, such as kebab platter, plant-based mac and cheese, etc.

Overall, you get 70+ meals to choose from across all menu categories. Since these are premade meals, customization is not possible. The menu, however, can be easily filtered by vegan, vegetarian, high protein, nut-free, and wheat-free.

Mosaic Foods – How Many Meal Plans Do You Get?

How many meals do you get a week

As mentioned above, the Mosaic Foods menu is divided into the following categories:

  • Veggie Bowls
  • Oat Bowls
  • Family Meals
  • Pizzas
  • Soups
  • Smoothies
  • Mosaic +

The veggie bowls range from Tangy Thai Stir Fry to Seitan Shawarma & Hummus Bowl. Oat bowls range from Cranberry Cinnamon Oats to Veggie Sausages & Gouda Oats.

Fresh, ordinary ingredients are used and put together very creatively by Mosaic Foods. For instance, the veggie bowls normally come with a base, like rice noodles or lentil curry, and then a delicious layer of, for example, tofu with peanuts or brown rice with butternut squash.

Vegan Meal Delivery and Vegetarian Meal Delivery

These are two separate meal plan categories on Mosaic Foods. Combined, there are over 30 options of vegan and vegetarian meals.

Vegan meals feature the “VEGAN” icon and vegetarian meals have the “VEGETARIAN” icon. The latter, however, even though vegetarian may not necessarily be vegan. So, for those on a 100% vegan diet, don’t forget to look for that “vegan” icon to ensure that the meals contain no animal products whatsoever.

Vegan or vegetarian, the meals in these two categories are cooked by talented, professional chef. It’s all about plant power, which offers a healthy, abundant boost of vitamins that are a part of ingredients such as peas, butternut squash, sesame seeds, and lots more.

Take Ginger Sesame Noodles; this dish includes 16 grams of protein and only 460 calories; for breakfast, Peanut Butter & Cacao Oats (energizing and packed with protein); for lunch, Peanut Tofu Bowl (whole grains and fresh veggies); and for dinner, Tuscan Pesto Bowl (high-protein and 100% vegan).

Frozen Meal Delivery and Healthy Meal Delivery

Frozen food has earned a bad rep because, more often than not, it’s got artificial ingredients. So, Mosaic Foods is very cautious and transparent about its Frozen Meal Delivery, along with its Healthy Meal Delivery plan – hand-crafted by chefs and fresh meals full of nutrient-dense, hearty vegetables but, most importantly, no artificial ingredients!

The freshest veggies are to be found; be it snappy, savory green beans or appetizing, roasted cauliflower, everything is super clean and tastes really amazing.

Is Mosaic Foods a Good Way to Lose Weight?

Mosaic Foods Lose Weight

Mosaic Foods is a plant-based meal delivery service that concerns itself with delivering nothing but healthy, frozen (prepared) meals to your doorstep every week. The menu is a very mouthwatering selection of some of the most delicious global cuisines – Thai, Indian, Mexican, Japanese, Italian, Greek, Caribbean, Moroccan, etc.

While all this may be true, Mosaic Foods doesn’t advertise its meals as “diet” food. The meals are plant-based, healthy, and sometimes also vegan no doubt, such as the wholesome veggie bowls along with pizzas, pastas, soups, curries, and so much more. Many of the dishes have either rice or another grain.

Also, specialty diets are a part of the Mosaic Foods menu, for example, gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan, high protein, and the like but no low-carb or carb-free meals, unfortunately. Nonetheless, these are guilt-free meals with no artificial or questionable ingredients.

All you need to do is check out the recipe’s ingredients list to know for yourself if it’s the right fit for your weight loss program. For instance, if you look at this Peanut Tofu Bowl, you’ll see that it contains a massive amount of protein – 27 grams per serving! A high-protein diet definitely makes an impact when combined with regular workouts for shedding weight.

Another superb example is this Miso Tempeh Bowl; it’s got 25 grams of protein per serving with 11 grams of fiber – very welcoming of weight loss indeed. So, there are plenty of such protein-rich meals available on the menu that are also wheat-free, which paves the way for calorie deficit, and that, in turn, accelerates weight loss goals.

Is Mosaic Foods Good for Vegans/Vegetarians?

Mosaic Foods for Vegetarians

The diet options on Mosaic Foods include vegan and vegetarian. In fact, all the meals are either vegan or vegetarian. The former are marked using a “VEGAN” icon, while the latter with a “VEGETARIAN” label. Dairy may or may not be a part of the dishes; you will have to check. Nevertheless, there are lots of choices for plant-based, vegan, and vegetarian meals.

The Mosaic Foods menu can be filtered by vegan, vegetarian, high protein, wheat-free, and nut-free. Thus, your vegan and/or vegetarian options shall be clearly visible, and selecting these meals should not be a confusing or an overwhelming task.

Vegan meals are often equipped with the real, plant-based version of protein (tempeh or tofu) or hearty whole grains, beans, lentils, seeds, and nuts.

Mosaic Foods Add-Ons

Mosaic Foods Add-Ons

Without a moment of hesitation, Mosaic Foods has proved to be a 5-star frozen or premade meal delivery service. A prominent strong point is the fact that the menu goes beyond just conventional American cuisine; there are a ton of inventive recipes too. What’s even more appealing is that a lot of the meals are grain and pasta-based (hence, very filling).

On the other hand, the thing that’s a teeny bit disappointing is that the menu of Mosaic Foods doesn’t feature any add-ons or even low-carb meals, as a matter of fact.

These microwaveable meals may be way more flavorful than any other such prepared meal delivery service, but there aren’t extras that you can add to your weekly order apart from soups, smoothies, oat bowls, etc.

Smoothies $8.49 per serving

However, it is a little surprising to know that Mosaic + meals are just $11.99 per serving. For gourmet, chef-curated selections, these are certainly not that expensive.

Now here’s the pricing breakdown of Mosaic Foods meals based on the number of items per box:

  • 6 items per order – $5.99 per serving + $9.99 shipping fee

Mosaic Foods Cost Per Week and Per Month

Mosaic Foods Costs

Despite being a subscription-based meal delivery service, Mosaic Foods meals are priced individually. But on the bright side, the per-serving cost is quite reasonable, especially for family meals, oat bowls, and veggie bowls.

You should note here that even if you forget about these dishes lying in your freezer for a few weeks, they’re still not going to go to waste, unlike expensive takeout or even more affordable groceries. So, you’re most likely saving a lot of money there!

Since items are priced a la carte, you can add how many ever meals you want to your weekly order. Just know that oat bowls and family meals are around $6 per serving and veggie bowls are around $11 per serving.

Mosaic Foods Delivery Locations

Mosaic Foods Delivery Location

Before you place your order, you have to enter your zip code on Mosaic Foods. As long as your delivery location is a major metro area within the western and eastern USA, you can have Mosaic Foods’ healthy, frozen meals delivered to you.

When placing the first order, you can pick the number of recurring or future deliveries. Your options are weekly, once every 2 weeks, once every 3 weeks, or once every 4 weeks.

But nothing is set in stone, meaning you’re free to easily edit these deliveries any time you want. Just be sure that the order or orders are not yet processed and dispatched (worry not, tracking numbers are provided at the right time).

Moreover, you don’t need to be home when the box is delivered. There’s enough dry ice in there to keep the meal frozen for long hours. Only make sure you get those meals into your freezer once you return home.

Mosaic Foods Packaging

Is sustainable packaging the default setting with Mosaic Foods? Fortunately, yes it is. Mosaic Foods is seriously sustainable to reduce environmental impact. The packaging materials are curbside-recyclable. And when they’re not, they can be repurposed or reused instead of being dumped into a landfill.

Since dry ice is used for keeping the meals chilled, you don’t have to worry about wasteful, non-eco-friendly gel packs. Dry ice will just evaporate and leave no waste behind (therefore, no carbon footprint). This combined with recyclable insulation liners and cardboard boxes and Mosaic Foods gives you no reason for any complaints when it comes to sustainability.

Are Mosaic Foods Meals Good?

Mosaic Foods Is it Good

Chef-prepared, plant-based meals are definitely worth it, particularly if you want to incorporate healthy eating into your lifestyle. The Mosaic Foods menu can be filtered by various dietary preferences, for example, high protein, nut-free, vegetarian, vegan, and more. Thus, there’s a lot of variety you get to choose from, even with a plant-based diet.

Mosaic Foods offers nutritional information, aside from menu filters, so you can order allergy-friendly meals. However, you might want to know that all ingredients used are handled in the same kitchen. This includes common allergens like wheat, soy, peanuts, etc.

Moving on, sometimes Mosaic Foods adds organic ingredients and sometimes it doesn’t. Once again, check each recipe or product page to find out all about the list, type, quality, and content of ingredients. Speaking of which, there are a few wheat-free, hence gluten-free meals on the menu.

Furthermore, if you’re concerned about how long the meals will last, it’s a relief to know that Mosaic Foods is a frozen meal delivery service. So, the meals typically stay fresh in the freezer for as long as 3 months. The “best-by” or expiration dates are printed on the packaging.

Are Mosaic Foods Meals Easy to Prepare?

Mosaic Foods easy to prepare

Most meals on the Mosaic Foods menu can be very easily and quickly heated in your microwave for no more than only a few minutes. Stovetop heating, for some more time, is also an option if you have the time. Family meals will take longer to cook in your oven, but cooking instructions are provided with every meal to simplify the preparation process for you.

So, expect family meals to take about 1 hour. Veggie bowls, on the other hand, shall be ready in under 5 minutes, while pizzas take 15–20 minutes in the oven and soups 5–8 minutes in the microwave.

As for the Mosaic Foods smoothies, you just have to blend the fresh, delightful fruits and other ingredients included. Pair them up with milk, dairy or nondairy – it’s all up to you.

Is Mosaic Foods Worth It for a Family?

Mosaic Foods for Family

Mosaic Foods offers 4-serving Family Meals where the cost per serving is just $5.99. Each week, there are around 12 options you can pick from. This includes kid-friendly cauliflower pasta bake, vegetarian meatloaf, veggie pot pie, and many such whole, large-sized meals. The company is one of the best prepared or frozen meal delivery services for families.

These family meals are an excellent alternative to fast food, junk food, and takeout. An exciting variety of flavors, wholesome ingredients, and quick prep time are the highlights of the show. You can pair them up with some sides and salads in case of bigger appetites.

If the family meals are a tad too tedious for you to prepare in the oven, you can also try the family-friendly but more convenient-to-prepare Veggie Bowls, such as Penne Bolognese, Green Curry Noodles, Chipotle Mango Burrito Bowl, and Jerk Lentil & Plantain Bowl. These take only 5 minutes!

Why You Should Order from Mosaic Foods?

Mosaic Foods Why You Should Order

You should be subscribing to Mosaic Foods’ weekly meal delivery for the sole purpose of eating better and more plant-forward meals. Both the vegan and vegetarian options are the most fitting for anyone who wants to avoid animal by-products.

Another praiseworthy factor about Mosaic Foods is that the company offers the perfect family meals as well. These larger dishes, which include 4 servings per meal, cost only $24. Plus, the menu variety is great for an adventurous palate, thanks to the wide range of flavors and cuisines along with basic recipes.

Vegetables don’t arrive mushy, and real “vegan” alternatives are used instead of artificial ingredients. That, in my opinion, is reason enough to order from Mosaic Foods – that and the affordability of it all!

Mosaic Foods Alternatives

Mosaic-Foods-Alternatives

Blue Apron

Mosaic Foods is all plant-based, whereas Blue Apron offers meat-based meals as well. Hence, greater menu variety and even affordability come with Blue Apron. But in both cases, the ingredients are of the highest quality and also preportioned.

Nonetheless, if you want cheaper priced meals, especially meal kits and ready-to-cook meals as opposed to Mosaic Foods’ just frozen meals, and a larger selection of meals, go with Blue Apron.

HelloFresh

The major difference here is that HelloFresh delivers meal kits, which means fresh ingredients. On the other hand, Mosaic Foods sends prepared meals that are frozen, so you have to heat them up in your microwave, oven, or on the stovetop.

With Mosaic Foods, you get more convenience since you don’t have to cook the meals from scratch. But if you really don’t have a problem with cooking new, exciting recipes, trying HelloFresh cannot be a wrong decision.

Factor

Now here, both Mosaic Foods and Factor offer readymade or premade meals. But Factor is the one with a wider range of meal plans. Also on the Factor menu are carb-conscious or low-carb meals, unlike the Mosaic Foods menu that’s got high-protein but no low-carb dishes.

However, in the favor of Mosaic Foods, their meals are more nutritionally balanced and plant-forward. As for Factor, its meals are more suitable for a variety of dietary preferences such as paleo, keto, vegetarian, and low carb.

Mosaic Foods Customer Service

Mosaic Foods Customer Support

There’s no live chat feature but there is a very useful Help Center.

Final Verdict

Making room in your freezer for Mosaic Foods frozen meals, plant-based with whole food ingredients, is not a wasted effort. These fresh, healthy, and tasty meals make easy, quick breakfasts, lunches, and dinners, along with soups, smoothies, and more! All of it is way better and healthier in comparison to fast food, junk food, takeout, etc.

If you lean on plant-centric, frozen meals a little too reluctantly, you should choose Mosaic Foods without any doubt or hesitation. These dishes are not bland, plus they’re really filling. Try it out for 1–2 weeks, and you’re most likely to look forward to your next Mosaic Foods meal delivery.
