Does CookUnity Require a Subscription? Everything You Need to Know
How CookUnity's Subscription Works
CookUnity is a weekly subscription service that auto-charges and auto-delivers unless you skip, pause, or cancel. Here's the full mechanics:
Auto-renewal: Charges your card each week on the same day and ships your selected meals for that delivery window. Continues until you take action to skip, pause, or cancel.
No long-term commitment: You're not locked in for months or years. Cancel after week one if you want — no fee, no penalty, no retention hoops.
Thursday midnight Eastern cutoff: All account actions (select meals, skip a week, pause, cancel) must be completed before Thursday midnight Eastern to affect the following week's delivery. This is the single most important thing to know about the subscription mechanics.
Your Flexibility Options
- Skip a week: Log in → select the upcoming week → click Skip. Zero charge. Must be before Thursday midnight Eastern.
- Pause: Pause up to 8 consecutive weeks from Account Settings. Resumes automatically. No fee, no loss of account history.
- Change plan size: Adjust from 4 to 16 meals/week anytime. Takes effect the following week.
- Cancel: Account Settings → Cancel Subscription → Confirm. No phone call, no chat, no retention email. Takes 30 seconds.
Can You Do a One-Time Order?
CookUnity does not offer a one-time purchase option — all orders require a subscription. However, you can cancel immediately after your first delivery and never be charged again. This makes your first order effectively a one-time purchase if you choose not to continue.
The 50% new subscriber discount applies to the first delivery only. If you cancel before the second week's Thursday midnight cutoff, you've paid half price for a one-time test and incurred no further obligation.
Most Common Complaints (And Our Take)
1. "I got charged after trying to cancel." — The cut-off is Thursday midnight Eastern. Miss it and you're charged for the next week. Not a scam — just a strict billing cycle. Set a calendar reminder.
2. "Portions are smaller than expected." — CookUnity meals are chef-portioned, typically 1 lb. Not a family-sized serving. Order 2 meals per night if you're hungry.
3. "I didn't like a meal." — Contact support within 7 days for a credit. Quality issues are covered, no documentation required.
Cancel CookUnity: 3 clicks, no phone call, 30 seconds.
