Honey Garlic Chicken Thighs
Ingredients
- 6bone in skin on chicken thighs
- 1 tspkosher salt
- 1/2 tspblack pepper
- 1 tbspolive oil
- 5garlic cloves, minced
- 1/3 cuphoney
- 3 tbsplow sodium soy sauce
- 2 tbspapple cider vinegar
- 1/4 cupwater
- 1/4 tspred pepper flakes
- sliced green onions, for serving
Instructions
- 1Season the chickenPat the chicken thighs very dry with paper towels, then season both sides with the salt and black pepper. Dry skin is the secret to a crisp golden sear.
- 2Sear until goldenHeat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium high heat. Lay the thighs in skin side down and sear undisturbed for 6 to 7 minutes until the skin is deep golden and releases easily. Flip and cook the other side for 3 minutes, then move the thighs to a plate.
- 3Build the sauceLower the heat to medium and pour off all but about a tablespoon of the fat. Add the minced garlic and stir for 30 seconds until fragrant. Pour in the honey, soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, water, and red pepper flakes, then whisk to combine and let it bubble for a minute.
- 4Simmer to finishNestle the thighs back into the pan skin side up along with any juices. Simmer over medium low for 12 to 15 minutes, spooning the sauce over the top now and then, until the chicken reaches 175 degrees Fahrenheit and the sauce has thickened into a glossy glaze.
- 5ServeScatter the sliced green onions over the top and serve the thighs with plenty of that pan sauce spooned over rice or roasted vegetables.
