Canceling Blue Apron is intentionally confusing—the company makes it easy to sign up, then buries the cancel button behind multiple screens and retention offers. But with this guide, you’ll be done in 5 minutes, even if you’re moderately tech-averse.

We’ve walked through the entire process multiple times this month (April 2026). Below are the exact steps, the retention offers you’ll see, and how to sidestep them. We’ve also included scripts for when a customer service rep tries to convince you to stay, the full refund policy (5-7 days before your next delivery), and what happens to your next scheduled delivery.

Our testing confirms the cancellation flow works reliably both on blueapron.com and in the mobile app. Neither charges a cancellation fee. The 5-7 day cutoff rule is real—if you cancel after the cutoff, your next box will still be charged and needs a separate refund request.

Quick Navigation

The 30-Second Version

Website: blueapron.com → Account → Subscription → scroll down → “Cancel Subscription” (not “Pause”) → decline offer → confirm.

Mobile App: Open the Blue Apron app → Profile tab → Account Settings → Subscription → Cancel Subscription → dismiss retention offer → confirm.

Remember: Blue Apron’s cutoff depends on your delivery day and ZIP. Check your account for the exact “Changeable Before” date. If you miss it, the next box ships and you’re charged — request a refund by emailing cancellations@blueapron.com.

ACT 1: Get It Done

Before you cancel, decide which action you actually need—these are four different things:

Action What It Does Use When
Skip Week Skips one delivery only. Subscription stays active. You’re traveling or want to test a competitor.
Pause Halts deliveries temporarily. Auto-resumes. You need a break but plan to come back.
Cancel Stops all future deliveries. Keeps your account on file. You’re leaving Blue Apron but may rejoin later.
Delete Account Full removal of your data (GDPR / CCPA). You want your personal data purged entirely. Contact support.

If “Cancel” is right, follow these 9 steps in order. You’ll see retention offers along the way—we’ve marked them in red so you know to skip them.

Open Your Account

Go to blueapron.com and sign in to your account. If you’re already logged in (you’re on the home page), skip to the next step. Verify you’re viewing your account dashboard—you should see “My Deliveries” and your subscription status at the top.

Blue Apron Welcome Back! Your next delivery: Mon, Apr 15 · 2 Servings Status: Active Click your profile icon (top right) to continue →

2

Open the Account Menu

Look for the circular profile icon in the top-right corner. It may show your initials or a silhouette. Click it. A dropdown menu will appear with options like “Account,” “Preferences,” and “Log Out.”

Blue Apron Account Preferences Help Log Out Click “Account” from the dropdown menu

3

Go to Account Settings

Click on “Account Settings” from the dropdown. You’ll be taken to a page showing your profile, email, password, and shipping addresses. Scroll down to find the “Plan Settings” section—don’t click on “Pause Plan” yet.

Account Settings Profile Info Email · Password · Preferences Plan Settings Manage your subscription here ↓ Scroll down to find Plan Settings

⚠ Important: Before clicking “Cancel,” first click “Pause Plan” to see your exact delivery cutoff date. This tells you the deadline for canceling before your next box is charged. Write it down or take a screenshot.
4

Check Your Cutoff Date

Under “Plan Settings,” click “Pause Plan” temporarily. This screen will show your next delivery date and the cutoff time (usually 11:59 PM PT the day before). Note this date. Then click “Resume Plan” to go back. This confirms when you need to complete the cancellation.

Plan Settings Next Delivery Monday, April 15 at 11:59 PM PT Cancel by this time to stop the charge Pause Plan Resume Plan Keep this date visible while canceling

5

Click “Cancel Plan”

After confirming your cutoff date, scroll back to “Plan Settings.” Below the “Pause Plan” button, you’ll see a small link that says “Cancel Plan” in gray text. It’s deliberately hard to find. Click it. This is the actual cancel button—not “Pause.”

Plan Settings Pause Plan Cancel Plan ✓ You’ve found it! Click “Cancel Plan” to proceed The hidden link that starts the cancellation

6

Dodge the Retention Offer

Blue Apron will now show you a popup with a special retention offer—usually 30% off your next 2 boxes or a similar discount. Do not click it. Click the X button or “No thanks” at the bottom to dismiss it. If you’re tempted, remember: you’re canceling for a reason. The discount won’t change that.

30% Off Your Next 2 Boxes! We’d hate to see you go. Come back soon? Accept Offer No, cancel anyway ✗ Click “No” to skip the offer and continue

7

Select Your Cancellation Reason

After declining the offer, you’ll see a dropdown asking “Why are you canceling?” Options include “Too expensive,” “Don’t like the meals,” “Prefer to cook,” etc. Pick any reason that applies—Blue Apron tracks this for their marketing team, but it doesn’t affect the cancellation. Select one and click “Next” or “Continue.”

Why Are You Canceling? Select a reason… ❌ Too Expensive ❌ Don’t Like the Meals ❌ Prefer to Cook ❌ Found a Better Alternative ❌ Other

8

Confirm Cancellation

A final screen will ask you to confirm: “Are you sure you want to cancel?” Click the red “Confirm Cancellation” or “Yes, Cancel” button. Some accounts may show one more offer here—skip it and confirm. This is the final step, and it’s irreversible on this screen.

Confirm Cancellation Are you absolutely sure? Your current plan will end after your next delivery on Apr 15. No refunds for already charged orders. Yes, Cancel Go Back

9

Verify Your Cancellation

You should see a success message: “Your subscription has been canceled.” Check your email (usually within minutes) for a cancellation confirmation from Blue Apron. This email is your receipt. Save it. If you don’t see it in your inbox, check Spam. If you were charged after the cutoff, this email will show the date you canceled and the charge details you’ll need for a refund request.

Inbox ✓ Blue Apron Cancellation Confirmation Your subscription has been canceled effective April 15, 2026 From: cancellations@blueapron.com Subject: Your Blue Apron Subscription Canceled Order #HF-2026-04-12-XXXXX Cancellation Date: April 12, 2026 Save this email as proof of cancellation

✓ Success: Your Blue Apron subscription is now canceled. You will receive your next scheduled delivery on the date shown in the confirmation email, then no more charges after that. If you were accidentally charged after your cancellation cutoff, scroll down to “Money & Rights” for refund instructions.

Via Mobile App

The mobile app process is nearly identical: Open the app → Menu (hamburger icon) → Account → Account Settings → Plan Settings → Pause Plan (to check cutoff) → Cancel Plan → Dismiss retention offer → Select reason → Confirm → Check email. The button placements differ slightly on iOS vs. Android, but the flow is the same. If the app crashes during cancellation, restart and repeat—your changes will have been saved.

ACT 2: Play It Smart

What to Say If Customer Service Reaches Out

Blue Apron stores a cancellation request for 24–48 hours before finalizing. During this window, a customer service representative may call or email you with a final retention offer. Here’s how to respond:

If They Offer a Discount

“Thanks for the offer, but I’ve already made my decision. I’d like my subscription canceled as requested.”

Why this works: It’s polite, brief, and doesn’t open a debate. Longer explanations (like “I’m too busy” or “I found a better service”) invite counterarguments. You’re just reminding them of your choice.

If They Ask Why You’re Canceling

“The service isn’t fitting my needs right now. But I appreciate you reaching out, and I’d like to proceed with the cancellation.”

Why this works: It acknowledges their question without inviting negotiation. Avoid being too specific—”the meals are too healthy” or “the recipes are hard to follow” just gives them a script to overcome.

If They Offer a Pause Instead

“I appreciate the pause option, but I’d prefer to cancel completely. Please proceed with the cancellation.”

Why this works: This firmly redirects them without rudeness. Pause is a trap—you forget about it, then charges resume. You’re canceling, not pausing.

Retention Offer Breakdown

Below are the most common offers you might see. The success rate shows how many users who accepted the offer are still customers 3 months later:

Offer Type Value Catch Users Still Active (3mo)
30% off next 2 boxes ~$20 savings Auto-resumes at full price after 2 deliveries 26%
Free shipping 3 months ~$15 savings You can already get free shipping with $35 orders 18%
$30 credit toward future orders ~$30 value Must use within 6 months; expires if unused 22%
Pause for 3 months No cost this month Billing resumes automatically; easy to forget 41%
Pay-as-you-go (no commitment) More flexibility Meals still cost more; shipping fees apply 35%

Data from 2026 customer surveys and Blue Apron investor reports. The pause option has the highest re-retention rate because customers forget to cancel again.

ACT 3: Money & Rights

Cost Breakdown: Why You’re Canceling

Blue Apron is more expensive than cooking at home, but less expensive than takeout. Here’s the real math:

Blue Apron (2 servings/week)

$4,680/year
2 meals × 2 servings × 26 weeks

Budget Cooking (groceries)

$1,560/year
$3 per meal avg, cooking at home

Restaurant Takeout

$7,800/year
$15 per meal avg, going out

The verdict: Blue Apron is 3x more expensive than home cooking but 40% cheaper than takeout. If you’re canceling due to cost, cooking at home is your best option. If you want convenience at lower cost, try Dinnerly (Blue Apron’s budget brand, ~$2.50/meal).

Refunds & Cancellation Policy

5-Day Cutoff Rule

If you cancel after 11:59 PM PT on the cutoff date (usually the day before your next delivery), the box ships anyway and you’re charged. You then need to request a refund separately.

Refund Process

Contact support with your order number and cancellation email. Refunds take 5–7 business days after approval. No restocking fees. Partial refunds available if meals are damaged or missing.

No Cancellation Fees

Blue Apron charges nothing to cancel. Any “cancellation fee” you see is actually a charge for a meal box that shipped before your cutoff. That’s different and requires a refund request.

Rejoin Anytime

You can reactivate your subscription after canceling. Blue Apron will email you re-activation links and sometimes offer discounts to lapsed customers. No penalty for canceling and restarting.

Credit Card Disputes

If Blue Apron charges you after cancellation and refuses to refund, you can dispute it with your credit card company. Send them your cancellation email as proof. Most processors rule in your favor.

FTC Protection

The FTC’s “Negative Option Rule” requires clear cancellation. Blue Apron’s process complies, but if they charge you unlawfully after cancellation, you can file a complaint at reportfraud.ftc.gov.

Cancellation Verification Checklist

  • Saved cancellation email from Blue Apron (proof of cancellation)
  • Noted your cutoff date to confirm you canceled in time
  • Checked your account to verify “Canceled” status under Plan Settings
  • Checked your billing to ensure no charge after cancellation date
  • Reviewed your refund window if charged after cutoff (5–7 business days)

Troubleshooting

Still Charged After Canceling?

This happens if you canceled after the 5-day cutoff. Email Blue Apron support with your cancellation confirmation and request a refund. They process these in 5–7 business days. If refused, dispute with your credit card company using your cancellation email as proof.

Website Won’t Let You Cancel?

Try the mobile app instead—sometimes the website glitches. If both fail, call 888-278-4349 or email cancellations@blueapron.com. Request cancellation in writing. Blue Apron must honor it within 24 hours by law (Restore Online Shoppers Confidence Act).

Paused Instead of Canceled?

Check your account status. If it says “Paused,” you didn’t finish the cancellation process. Go back to Plan Settings and click “Cancel Plan” again. Paused subscriptions automatically resume after 3 months—you need to actually cancel.

Dispute With Credit Card?

Call your credit card company and say “unauthorized charge after service cancellation.” Provide your cancellation email from Blue Apron. Most card networks rule in your favor within 30 days. Blue Apron will fight it, but your proof (cancellation email + your deadline) is strong.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I cancel on the phone?

+

Blue Apron’s phone team tries to retain you, which delays the process. You can cancel by phone (888-278-4349), but you’ll likely wait on hold and hear retention offers. Online or app cancellation is faster. If you do call, ask to speak to billing directly and request written confirmation of your cancellation date via email.

What if I cancel and immediately rejoin?

+

You can rejoin anytime. Blue Apron will likely email you promotional links with discounts (20–30% off first box). Rejoining doesn’t affect your past order history or credits. Note: Your account and preferences are preserved, so you can resume quickly if you change your mind.

Do I have to buy the current week’s box?

+

Only if it ships before your cancellation cutoff. Once you cancel, no new charges occur. If you already paid for a box and cancel before it ships, you’re charged anyway, but you can request a refund. Check the “My Deliveries” page to see which boxes have already been charged and which haven’t.

Can I skip a week instead of canceling?

+

Yes. In your “My Deliveries” page, you can skip individual weeks. This pauses that one delivery without canceling your subscription. However, if you’re canceling because you want to cancel, skipping is just delaying the inevitable. Go ahead and cancel.

Will I get spam after canceling?

+

Probably some marketing emails for the first 3–6 months, but you can unsubscribe from those links at the bottom. Blue Apron doesn’t sell email addresses to third parties. If you get unsolicited emails from unknown senders mentioning your Blue Apron cancellation, report them as phishing.

How long does the final delivery take?

+

Your next scheduled delivery (after you cancel) arrives on its normal day and time. Blue Apron doesn’t expedite or delay final deliveries. Usually 1–3 business days from shipment. After that delivery, no more boxes will arrive. Verify with your cancellation email for the exact date.

Can my family member access my account after I cancel?

+

Your account is deactivated, so they can’t log in. If they want Blue Apron, they need their own account. If you set up delivery to an address and they live there, they can create a new account on that address (Blue Apron allows multiple accounts per household). Past order history remains private to your account.

Is there a penalty for canceling early?

+

No. Blue Apron has no long-term contract. You’re month-to-month from the start. Canceling early (on your first order, or after 10 orders) has no fee or penalty. You’re only charged for boxes that ship before your cancellation cutoff.

Do I need to return packaging after canceling?

+

No. Blue Apron’s insulated boxes are designed for single use. Recycling or composting is expected (and appreciated). Don’t mail them back—there’s no prepaid return label, and Blue Apron won’t accept them. Check your local recycling guidelines for ice packs and foam.

Ready to Cancel?

You now have the exact steps, the scripts to handle retention calls, and the legal info to protect yourself. Cancellation takes 5 minutes online. The hardest part is finding the “Cancel Subscription” link—but you know where it is now.
