The catch

Unsweetened here does not mean low calorie, one 8 fl oz cup is 130 calories and 11g of fat, roughly four times a standard unsweetened almond milk, because it is far more almond dense. (source)

The honest take

This is about as clean as a carton of almond milk gets, just filtered water and almonds with no gums, emulsifiers, or carrageenan, and it packs 5g of protein per cup where most almond milks give you 1g. The catch is that clean does not mean light. Because Elmhurst uses roughly four times more almonds, one 8 fl oz serving runs 130 calories and 11g of fat, versus the 30 to 40 calories in a typical unsweetened almond milk. It is also unfortified, so you are not getting the added calcium and vitamin D that mainstream brands lean on. If you want a short ingredient list and real almond richness for coffee or smoothies, it delivers, but it is not the pick if your whole reason for drinking almond milk is to save calories.
