UNREAL Milk Chocolate Gems are the brand's cleaner take on candy coated milk chocolate, basically a better sourced M and M. The ingredient list is genuinely short and real, built on chocolate liquor, cocoa butter and cane sugar, with the color coming from turmeric, beet juice and spirulina instead of artificial dyes, plus fair trade cocoa and milk from cows not given added hormones. That said this is still candy, and a 30 gram serving of 35 tiny pieces carries 11 grams of added sugar and 4.5 grams of saturated fat, which is 23 percent of a day. A health minded shopper reaches for it as an occasional treat that avoids synthetic dyes and soy, not as an everyday health food.
