Each tablespoon carries 4 grams of sugar alcohol from erythritol and isomalt, and isomalt in particular can cause bloating or GI upset if you eat more than a serving. (source)
The honest take
These are a no sugar added chocolate chip that leans on erythritol, stevia, and fiber instead of cane sugar, so a tablespoon runs 50 calories with 0 grams of sugar and roughly 1 gram of net carb once you subtract the 3 grams of fiber and 4 grams of sugar alcohol. That makes them a reasonable swap for anyone watching blood sugar or following keto, and the chocolate itself is Fair Trade with no dairy in the ingredient list. The honest asterisk is that they are labeled dark chocolate style rather than chocolate, and the current recipe includes sugar alcohols and blends in palm kernel and palm oil alongside the cocoa butter. If you want real minimally processed dark chocolate, this is not that, but as a baking chip that keeps sugar at zero it does its job. Lily's lets me have a chocolate square without the sugar spike, sweetened with stevia and erythritol instead of sugar. I hold it at three because those sugar alcohols bother some stomachs and it is still an ultra processed treat. Useful for a craving, not a clean food.
