The catch

One half cup delivers 570mg of sodium, about 25 percent of the daily limit, plus 11g of added sugar, and a realistic full cup portion doubles both. (source)

The honest take

These are tender navy beans slow simmered with real bacon and brown sugar, and the flavor is genuinely good, but this is a sweetened, salty side more than a health food. A half cup gives you a respectable 7g protein and 5g fiber, yet it also carries 11g of added sugar and 570mg of sodium in that same small scoop. Most people ladle out closer to a full cup, which quietly doubles those numbers. If you want the fiber and protein of beans without the sugar and salt load, plain canned navy or pinto beans do more for you.
