One tin has 620mg of sodium, about 27 percent of a day, and a small amount of added demerara sugar in the cure. (source)
The honest take
This is Fishwife's Slow Smoked Mackerel with Chili Flakes, a 3.7oz tin of wild caught Atlantic mackerel packed in olive oil with a six item ingredient list you can actually read. One tin gives you 15g of protein and a real dose of vitamin D and omega 3s for 220 calories, which is a genuinely good ratio for a shelf stable protein. The tradeoff is sodium, since a single tin carries 620mg, about 27 percent of a day, and there is a touch of demerara sugar in the cure. If you want a clean, minimally processed protein and you are not watching salt closely, it earns its spot in the pantry.

Fishwife made me actually enjoy tinned fish again. Thoughtfully sourced, great on a cracker, and a genuinely easy way to get omega-3s. It is a premium-priced treat rather than a bulk protein, and I am completely fine with that for what it is.
