The catch

One packet packs 12g of added sugar, about 24 percent of the daily value, which is the tradeoff for that maple brown sugar taste. (source)

The honest take

This is a fast, genuinely whole grain breakfast with a short ingredient list of whole grain oats, sugar, salt, and natural flavor, so there are no seed oils, no sugar alcohols, and no artificial colors to worry about. The real issue is the sugar. One 43g packet carries 12g of added sugar, which is 24 percent of the daily value in a single serving, and it only gives you 4g of protein and 3g of fiber to balance it. If you want the convenience of instant oats but not the sweetness, the plain Quaker instant packets or old fashioned oats let you control the sugar yourself.
