The catch

Two tablespoons carry 130 calories and 10 grams of fiber, so ramp up slowly with plenty of water and avoid eating the seeds dry, since they swell and can cause discomfort or choking. (source)

The honest take

This is about as clean as a pantry staple gets, one ingredient and nothing else added. Two tablespoons give you 10 grams of fiber and 6 grams of plant protein for 130 calories, with 0 grams of sugar and 0 milligrams of sodium, plus a real dose of omega 3 fats from the seeds. A health minded shopper reaches for it to thicken oatmeal, blend into smoothies, or make overnight chia pudding, and there is honestly very little to argue with here. The only reason to pause is that chia is calorie dense and the fiber is only comfortable if you introduce it slowly and drink enough water.
