The catch

It is still albacore, which runs higher in mercury than light skipjack tuna so it is a limit your servings fish, and the sea salt version has 310mg of sodium per can. (source)

The honest take

This is about as clean as a can of tuna gets. The ingredient list is just two things, albacore tuna and sea salt, with no added water, oil, broth, or filler, so a whole 5oz can delivers 33g of protein for 180 calories and zero carbs or sugar. Wild Planet packs smaller pole and line caught albacore, which the brand says runs lower in mercury than the larger fish deep sea fleets pull, and each can averages 1,500mg of EPA and DHA omega 3s. The honest reason to reach for it is protein density and sourcing, not price, since it costs more than a standard grocery can.

What buyers say

Eric Sornoso, FounderAug 10, 2026
Wild Planet is a pantry staple for me. Pole-and-line caught, packed without a lot of added water, so you get real fish and clean flavor straight from the can. It costs more than the cheap tins, and for something I eat most weeks the sourcing is worth it.
