The catch

Because it is packed in olive oil it runs 180 calories and 12g of fat per pouch, roughly double a water packed light tuna. (source)

The honest take

This is about as clean as canned tuna gets, just yellowfin, extra virgin olive oil, and sea salt with nothing else on the label. One pouch delivers 18g of protein for 180 calories, and because it is packed in olive oil rather than water it carries 12g of fat, most of it the heart friendly monounsaturated kind. Yellowfin runs higher in mercury than skipjack light tuna, so it is a solid everyday protein for most people but worth rationing if you are pregnant.

Who it's for

✓ Buy it if

Anyone who wants a three ingredient tuna and a portable 18g protein hit that tastes good straight from the pouch.

✕ Skip it if

You are counting calories tightly or need a very low mercury fish, since oil packing adds fat and yellowfin carries more mercury than light tuna.
